Sudden nose color change?

I boarded my 2/12 year old Maltese/Shihtzu mix on Friday, and picked him up this morning. His nose was completely black when I dropped him off, and now it is pink around the bottom of his nose, by his lips. I found this to be odd... I know of snow nose, but it is spring here in Oklahoma. Could this be a burn? Injury? I have attached before and after pictures. Any ideas?

Try a ShihTzu group on Facebook..there are some active ones.
But my guess would be from rubbing up against a bowl while eating, some kind of chew bone like a Kong or gnawing on cage bars depending where they kept him.

Check his teeth really good to see if there are any changes.
