Sudden Drooling, A LOT of it

Last night my Dalmatian started drooling when we were eating dinner, I just thought it was because of the food. After we were done, he started making drool spots on the couch. I woke up and he made a bunch of drool puddles in his sleep and he kept drooling all day. We took him to the vet and they couldn't find anything wrong and said he might have eaten something he wasn't supposed to. He is still doing this 24 hours later and I'm starting to worry. The vet also said he's too old to be teething because he's 1 year and 3 months old. Has anybody else experienced anything like this?

Did they test for parvo? For some reason that was my first thought. I've had two dogs succumb to parvovirus and both of them drooled insane amounts at some point. Is he still eating, drinking, behaving normally? Parvo starts with a loss of appetite so I doubt this was it if he's eating fine.

He very well could've gotten into something he shouldn't have. Whatever it is, hope it gets better!

He is still normal besides the puddles. I hope it's not parvo! He's up to date on all vaccines and just got boosters today.
Is there something stuck in his teeth/gum line/roof of mouth maybe?? Did he maybe get stung by a bee?
Any coughing or scratching at his face? Whining or seeming dopey/tired? How is his appetite?

Some things to have the vet re check/test for:
Bloat
Poison/plants like mushrooms in the yard? black walnut trees??
Snake/Spider bite
Epilepsy
Do you give rawhide or plastic chew toys to him? If he ate too much rawhide it could be dehydrating him (it sucks up water in the stomach and expands) make sure he is drinking lots of water... If he ate a part of a toy (go check them for cracks or chips missing) he could be having digestion problems and could even need surgery.

Let us know what the vet says/when he starts feeling better!

I'd also think he ate something and it got stuck in his teeth, got stung/bitten by a bug, or got into a plant in the house or yard.

Open his mouth and check his teeth thoroughly paying special attention to between them. If there's nothing like that then go around the mouth and look for any signs of stinger or bite. Then take a walk around the house and yard to see if any plants have been nibbled on.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Two reasons I can think of. 1 .My hound had Rocky Mountain spotted fever and drooled continually until we got antibiotics and 2. if you apply topical tick drops like front line and a dog licks it they drool uncontrollably for a while.
Our catshoula ate moldy black walnuts in the backyard (tree is cut down now) and drooling was excessive for several weeks before she almost succumbed to liver failure. She also became lethargic, tried to "hide", threw up blood and bile right before she almost succumbed, it was touch and go...Something is wrong with your dog...did the vet do a liver enzyme test/????

Holly!!!!! A shout out for assist1
Back to the vet or a different vet.
You need to find out what is going on.
Could be poisoning, a bad tooth, something stuck in his craw, etc.
Get to the bottom of it!

If it is poisoning you need to act now. I would jump on going to another vet and get the copy of the blood tests and take them with you!
There was dog that came into the clinic I worked at at the time. He was drooling like made but no other symptoms. I was drying his mouth with paper towels . When I grabbed his tongue to wipe I noticed something way in the back. When the vet came in he pulled out a deli toothpick that had gotten stuck to his tongue. Definitely check teeth and all in his mouth for foreign objects.

I am very surprised the vet just sent you home with no answer and without doing any tests. Please get a second opinion!

Leesi got hold of a delicious monster just now, rushed her to the vet. She said she should be ok, lets hope she's correct.

If your vet isnt helping go to another one!

Any update on this pup???? What was the problem???
