I have a two year old golden retriever and I noticed he was biting and licking his paw on the bottom. I took him to the vet and they did not know what it was but referred me to a specialist. He has been acting normal besides the biting and licking of his paw. I have taken a picture of the growth on his paw and wanted to ask if anyone has seen anything like this. It is towards the bottom left side on his paw pad shown in the picture. I am seeing a specialist near the end of September to get him checked out. Thanks for the opinions!

If the vet couldn't tell you I doubt that we will know.

If I had to guess with no medical knowledge to think of then I would be curious of these two options depending on the texture.

If it is pliable and itchy it could be a seed of some kind that got embedded in the foot (possibly via a small cut) and is starting to grow and/or get infected.

If it is hard like a nail then it could be a keratoacanthoma, which is a kind of benign cancerous tumor. People can get those too, which is why I know about them.

The specialist is really your only play to get a firm diagnosis at this point.
