Stitches and surgery drain

My dog needed stitches after running into a tree branch .
The vet also put in a surgery drain .
Up to this point I have never heard of such a thing as a surgery drain before .

Anyway , the drain was removed after 5 days but it is still leaking .
At first they told me it would only leak for a few days .
After 2 weeks it was still leaking and the area looks swollen and red .
So I went back to remove the stitches and they looked at it and gave me more antibiotics although they said it looks normal .
I asked how long before it stops leaking . I asked is it going to be months and months ?
They say oh no just a week especially with the antibiotics .

So almost a week is gone and I see no sign of improvement .
I kind of suspect this was a botched job .
Should I seek a second opinion or does anyone here heard of similar situation and think it is normal ?

I would seek a second opinion if you're concerned. Is the fluid that's coming out a clear, reddish fluid? What does it look like?

Drains are pretty common...With some wounds, there is more concern for infection than others. They put the drain in so the wound can get air, and so any bacteria and nasty stuff drains out rather than staying in and festering. Usually healthy drainage material is clear and red or pink. Sometimes they drain a bit of blood.

Once the drain is removed, it can still leak for a couple days. But if it's been 2 weeks and it's still doing that? I would definitely be concerned.

The leak is sort of watery with red material . I guess I will wait for the antibiotic to run out and then see what I will do .
