My dog has been having sneezing fits. He has environmental allergies that make him itch. If he is scratching a lot he gets cytopoint.

I contacted the vet about sneezing and he told me to give him a Benadryl twice a day. He has not sneezed today.

he told me to look for bleeding from nostrils. He acts fine, no bleeding.

he sleeps most of the day but gets excited for walks and play. Will the Benadryl sedate him? I have to go get it from the store but don’t feel it is urgent since he stopped sneezing.

It can have a sedative effect on some dogs, some people too! You could ask your vet about cetirizine (Zyrtec). That's what my vet has my dog on for his seasonal allergies. It's not as sedating as the benadryl.
