Hey everyone,
I could really use some advice about my pooch. My doggo Django is a rescue dog that I adopted almost three years ago in May. He is supposedly about 5 years old, even though I suspect he may be younger cuz he still acts like a puppy. He is a Pyrenees Collie Mix who weighs about 44 pounds. He is the sweetest, most loving, wonderful dog....... When I am home. The problem is every time I leave he turns into monster mode and freaks out. I kennel him when I leave because the few times I have tried to leave him out he always ends up destroying something. He has destroyed blinds, pens, curtains, and even dug up a bunch of carpet in my ex's home. The problem is now his Kennel. He has such a will to freak out that nothing I do matters. I have tried giving him special kennel only treats, feeding him in his kennel, leaving him in his kennel for 10 minutes before I leave and 10 minutes after I get home so he learns that me leaving and going is no big deal. I have tried a variety of calming tablets, pheromone plug ins, and even a bark collar. I've tried leaving on the tv and the radio, even having another dog there for him to hang with. Nothing calms him. Please understand I exercise my dog every single day sometimes twice a day and take him to doggy day care 3 times a week. Plus frequent visits to the dog parks and my other friends homes who have dogs he loves. He gets PLENTY of socialization time and play time. I do live in an apartment but I made a pact that Django would ALWAYS get the exercise he needs, and he does. I also feed him a great food and give him regular healthy treats. I love him dearly and can't imagine my life without him. But I am so nervous, with my most recent move into an apartment (after living in a home with my ex) that he will get us evicted because of his tantrums. He can go to daycare for 9 hours come home, eat, hang out for a bit, and STILL have a conniption when I leave him in the kennel. I honestly don't know what else to do. I am at my wits end and so scared about losing my best friend. He is such a wonderful companion I can't stand the thought of re-homing him. But I simply can't take him to work or work from home right now. I tried talking to my vet and have tried everything she suggested (I think she is hesitant to prescribe him anti anxiety pills for some reason). HELP!!! Any help you can offer would be amazing at this point.
