Hello,

I am new to the dog owning world. This dog was an inheritance animal from when my girlfriend's mom relocated back to her home country. The dog, sadly, would not have survived the quarantine period, so it was decided she would stay with us.

She is a 14 year old Schnauzer. Recently, after a major surgery where a tumor was removed, she started to soil in the house after if my girlfriend and I left the house. It didn't matter how many times, or how long we took her out for before and after, we would always come home to find her having soiled in the house and covered in her own urine and/or feces.

I'm not really sure what to do going forward. She is mostly deaf, showing signs of dementia, does not seem to be interested when let outside in our back yard or taken on a walk, and keeps using the bathroom in the house when we leave. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Poor thing! I agree that diapers are probably a good idea. I don't think she can really help this behavior.

My last dog developed joint problems in his senior years so it hurt him to squat and he would end up peeing on his legs. He hated it so much he would hold his potty as long as he could until he couldn't anymore, even if we were outside, resulting in house accidents. Poor guy always felt so bad about it, too. We ended up using diapers for him.
