Hello! I have a lab mix puppy at 9 weeks old and seeking some advice on crate/potty training. When we first got her a week ago, she took to the crate right away and even walked in to settle herself down one night. We were impressed. We’ve fed her all of her meals in the crate, regularly give her kong toys and other crate training aids, and have a snuggle puppy. She used to settle down in 5 mins or so. However, the last few nights, she’s started to cry after we take her out (every 2-3 hours) and progressively gets louder. We’ve tried to take her out several times after she cries to make sure she doesn’t need to relieve herself outside, and when she hasn’t, we’ve tried to ignore her yelps to see if she settles down in the crate (sometimes saying “shh” when it’s been prolonged - but that seems to make it worse). We sleep on the couch next to the crate and show her we’re there, but she continues to cry loudly. We have an x-pen that connects to the crate with potty pads and a grass pad. We’re wondering if we’re trying to crate her all night too early? Should we let her sleep out in the x-pen and slowly increase the time she spends in the crate at night as we continue to potty train her? Any tips you have would be SO much appreciated!

Have you tried sticking your fingers into the crate at night until she falls asleep? What do you mean by too early? As in trying to have her in the crate all night or something else? When is dinner time and breakfast? Letting her have some space with the xpen isn't a terrible idea. Also, about how much time total.does she spend in the crate?.especially now vs last week?
