I have a 7 year old American Eskimo/Maltese Mix named Bella, who has rarely had any problems over the nearly 7 years I've had her. Perfectly healthy, eats well, stays hydrated, etc.

A few days ago I was petting her when I noticed she had a scab or two on her head, but I didn't think anything of it. Sometimes when the weather becomes drastically hot (I'm in California), her skin tends to have a little bit of a hard time adjusting. Fast forward to about an hour ago, I noticed she had more than she did a few days ago: probably around 4 scabs now. I know she doesn't have fleas or any bugs in her hair. She not only sleeps in my bed but I'm constantly brushing her and making sure she's clean (she went to the groomer not even a week ago). I also have a 9 year old Maltese purebred, and she sometimes gets scabs too.

The weirdest part of all of this is: they're mostly indoor/couch dogs, and these scab/flakes are only on the top of their heads. I wasn't sure if this was just a skin problem, or what. I also know this isn't a food problem (we feed them Blue Buffalo's limited ingredient grain free food).

I don't know anyone else who has had this problem with their dog, so I thought I would hop on a dog forum and ask other owners. Does this sound like something I should be worried about? Or could this just be a case of dandruff/sweat? Or even allergies? She doesn't act any different, she still eats/drinks the normal amount a dog her size should, it's so incredibly confusing.

Any feedback is appreciated, thank you so much!!!
