All four of my guys and gals go for daily walks; however, now that the weather is starting to slowly cool, I'm interested in building up one of my guys to jogging or running with me. Any tips to help build up his stamina in the safest way? I have access to grassy areas to jog, so we won't be crossing much pavement. I also use a harness and hands free leash to allow freedom of movement.

My potential running partner is a 2 1/2 year old pit mix. Physically healthy and very active.

Take a look at the Pooch to 5k program. It's very similar to the Couch to 5k program for people, but spread out over a few more weeks. It's a nice and slow introduction. If he seems to be handling the Pooch to 5k fine, you could probably even do the Couch to 5k with him and use one of the apps to keep track while you're running.
