I took my dogs for a treat today on a friends country property and let them run off leash. Within a few minutes, Chase pulled up some sort of rodent, I think it was a vole, from under the snow, and pupy Unna snatched it from him and ran off. Her recall was doing really good but her instincts took over and she just ran for it. I watched helplessly as she gulped the thing down like a snake. Then she came to me, and I grabbed her and opened her mouth but it was gone. I scared her in the process :( I hope this won't be too big of a setback for training...

anyway I know to give hydrogen peroxide to vomit, so we rushed off to the drug store and I got some, gave her a capful. She vomited up the whole creature in one piece. She is 16 lbs and it was the size of a big hamster I can't believe she swallowed it whole. She has been vaccinated already for leptospirorsis. Seems fine now but I'm wondering if this warrants a vet visit? It was only inside her for maybe 30 minutes. She is fine now as if nothing happened.

ah shoot. I was worried about parasites and such. It was definitely alive when Chase caught it. oh well I only gave her a little bit it was the smallest size bottle, and she ate a lot when we got home. Good to know in case it happens again though! It was indeed a meadow vole, RIP little guy sorry your final resting place was a garbage can in front of shoppers drug mart :(
