I just got a puppy about a month ago. In genearl he does well. He is 3.5 months old best we can tell. My wife works at home but we still crate him 3-4 hours spread out through the day just to keep him used to being in the crate during the day sometimes. He has not pooped inside at all and goes to the door to whine when he needs to or we take him out often enough he doesnt need to. He stays in his crate without pee or poop for 8 hours at night and has never messed in the crate. When I take him out to pee in the morning he pees for a good 10 seconds. I try to take him out every hour to hour and a half or so when he is with me in the house but not in the crate and whenever I take him out he pees, I look at him and say potty and he potties. He is VERY good with this. Still he seems to pee inside every few days, and when he pees its just on the carpet and its 2-3 seconds. He doesnt mark, Ive seen plenty of dogs mark and I am very sure he is not doing that inside and as he doesnt even do that outside. I dont feel when he pees inside that he really "needs" to pee otherwise he would have more pee built up. Any idea how to break him on his convenience peeing?

I'm assuming he's only a few months old?

At that age he's most likely not marking and it's more that he just doesn't have much control of his bladder. It might be that he doesn't even know that he's doing it. Keep doing what you're doing, no punishment or anything when he goes inside, if you catch him in the act scoop him up and take him outside. Otherwise just clean up the mess inside and try and watch him a bit more closely. As he gets older and gets more control this should stop.
