Hello, and thanks in advance for any help or information provided. I have 3 dogs. One 9 year old Pug Mix, a 2 year old Boston Mix, and a 7 month old mutt of some sort, possibly boxer hound, or pit hound. Not sure what she is really, but she is larger than the others.. currently 40 lbs.. All 3 females. The 7 month old doesn't mess with the 9 year old. For the most part they love each other and just cuddle.. But my 7 month old and 2 year old are at it almost all day. My boston is 2 and still pretty high energy and her and the puppy go at it all day.. It usually seems like play but sometimes the puppy will get too mouthy for my liking. She will latch on to the Bostons neck, or sometimes put her mouth around her entire head.. She doesn't seem like she's trying to hurt her, but I know accidentally she might.. She doesn't realize sometimes the size difference.. Will this change as she ages? The biting, smacking, body slams, etc. are almost non-stop.. and the Boston goes at her just as much.. Does this sound like play from 2 young dogs, or something more I should be concerned about? Any ideas to break it up or make them stop would be nice too… any and all suggestions or opinions are appreciated! Thanks!

How does your Boston respond? If she doesn't want to play does she make it known in a way that the puppy understands?

Normal puppy play. Pax and his neighbor used to get into all out wrestling matches where an outside observer might think it was a death match!

Key to watch out for is tucked tails and if they can pause. If they can stop, even for a few seconds before going back at it, they are fine. If they are so over stimulated that they can not stop themselves that is the point to step in an give a time out.

If they can pause then they both go back at it rather than one looking for an escape, they are both good!
