That is a long grooming session. Maybe you could do it in two days instead of one long session. Also make sure the clippers are not hot. When I groomed I changed blades frequently to make sure the blades don't get to hot. I had many new clients that were shy of the clippers because they had been burned by other groomers. It sounds like you were getting signals to stop that your pup was done for what ever reason. If you want your pup to be good during grooming don't over do it. I am not saying stop after 5 minutes but 1 hour should be the limit.
