Trucker started 30mg of Prozac 4 days ago, but yesterday when I went to let him out of his crate you could see he was PETRIFIED. His eyes were all pupils, he was slinking low to the ground, and he went straight upstairs and jumped a baby gate to hide under the bed. It took me over 4 hours to get him outside to go to the bathroom and even then you could see he was scared to be out there (it was dark and I turned the lights off so he couldn't see the neighbors as well).

Has anyone ever had a Prozac adverse reaction this fast? Will it go away or is Prozac just not for him?

Note: When we tried Xanax he was overexcited and it seemed to last for at least 2 days before it wore off.

I'd call the vet and see what they say. I've never given prozac to my dogs so I'm not sure about the effects or side effects, maybe there is something better for him.

Honestly, best to ask your vet this question. I have heard that most who start their dogs on Prozac are advised to shrink their dog's world for the first two weeks. Assuming because the dog needs time to adjust to the drug.

I had this type of reaction with prozac within two days. I felt like Dr. Frankenstein! The vet encouraged me to stick with it and she would adapt. Didn't happen. Two weeks later, same behavior. I stopped it and she got back to normal. We are using trazadone and it helps to calm her anxiety, she's playful again and no weirdness.

:( I'm sorry to hear this! I hope she's doing better soon. We are using enzymes for now, but the next step for our boy will be Prozac, too, if this doesn't work. I would call the vet, even if you have to call the emergency line over the weekend.

We had 30" inches of snow in 2 days so everything shut down so I had to make a decision. I ended up giving him two days off then giving him a single 20mg pill once every other day for 2 days and now I am giving him 20mgs everyday and hoping to get a hold of the vet today to see if I should bump it up to the 30mg or leave it here for a while since he seems to be doing okay except for slightly more skiddish.
