We noticed a black blister like bump on my friends dog bottom. Can anyone tell us what it looks like or if they too have seen this on any other dogs, etc? If possible hemorrhoids, should it be something that is checked out by a vet or are there any home treatments that we can try? Thanks in advance.

Well, certainly not a hemorrhoid (true hemorrhoids are not only extremely rare in dogs, but occur within the anus and rectum, not as a small black bump on its edge). However, cannot tell you what a small black bump is other than just that.... a small black bump. Could be a blister, a growth, an injury, a melanotic cyst, a blob of anal gland material etc. Need to examine that one in person.

This is a compacted gland. It needs to be expressed by a vet. The cost is generally around $30. You can ask your vet how to do it at home if the dog will let you, as it will have to be done every few months. Leaving it untreated can result in pain and a rupture which will become a medical emergency.
