Hello, I am new to this site. I'm interested in getting a dog. I am looking for a medium sized, hypoallergenic dog that will fit well into our family. I'm willing to do whatever training is necessary and think I might enjoy the training as well. I love to walk and hike and would love to have a dog to share that with. I also have three kids aged 9, 12, 14 and three siamese cats. I'm struggling to decide on a portuguese water dog versus a wheaton terrier and also puppy versus older dog. I'm a bit worried about introducing a dog to my cats and wonder whether a older dog or puppy might be better. I have an option currently to purchase an 8 month old male pwd or a 2.5 year old female wheaton who is being rehomed after being bred. The wheaton breeder also has a female puppy at the moment. There will also be pwd puppies available in February. I live in the city, but have a good yard. We are a busy family, but spend a lot of time camping and outdoors. Thanks for your suggestions.

Do you know much about the temperament of either of the adult dogs? They would be a safer bet if you know that they are ok with cats and kids. I only know one Wheaten Terrier and it’s stubborn as anything, so It would be useful to find out how it has responded to training.
