Hey

So next month im ordering Jessie whole prey model raw pieces and doing the 80 10 10 ratio. However when it comes to organs if she is allergic to lamb meat will she be allergic/sensitive to lamb kidneys? i know the heart is meat.

Also i need 3kg or 4kg of food for Jessie from this store :

She may be sensitive to anything lamb if you know she is allergic to meat. Anything that comes from lamb, is lamb no matter how you look at it. You can try it and see, or just don't feed lamb organs. You feed beef organs, or organs from anything else.
Is she allergic to raw lamb or just lamb in kibble?

Thanks for your reply appreciated. Okay thanks yes i had lamb tripe and she vomited afterwards and quite alot otherwise feed it raw and over time she had thinning of her chest hair was quite noticeable and she is long haired breed even the vet was surprised because it was noticeable and showed white skin a bit.

I saw my parents supermarket they go to sell lamb hearts etc so wasnt sure if the organs would make a difference as i think the organs used in her current mix is either venison or lamb. Just says this for ingredients:

uitable for Cats & Dogs. Based on the Prey Model Diet of 55% muscle meat, 25% tripe, 10% bone & 10% organ. Wild rabbit is low in fat and cholesterol. Wild venison is vey lean and highly nutritious as the deer graze upon a wide range of plant species. Grass fed lamb has a high iron content, is a very good source of selenium and a good source of zinc. Liver and kidneys (lamb and/or venison), are a great source of B vitamins such as: B1, B2, B6, B9, B12 & taurine. Green Tripe, increases your dog and/or cat's ability to digest meat, bone and organs by lowering gastrintestinal pH and supplying digestive enzymes. Green tripe is a good source of probiotics. Contains NO additives, Grain Free & Preservative Free. Processed in an MPI licensed and audited primises from quality traceable raw 100% NZ product.

Ingredients:
Whole wild rabbit, wild venison steak, green lambs tripe, wild venison and/or lamb kidney. Hence my asking because bit confused if it says that.

Is she allergic to raw lamb or just lamb in kibble?
Hi

When i fed her the raw lamb k9 natural she had thinning of the hair and her belly got a bit irritated but then again it was entering the warmer months then by the time i noticed. kibble lamb gives her the farts and horrible stool.

K9 Natural lamb i was feeding her ingredients

Lamb, Lamb Blood, Lamb Tripe, Eggs, Lamb Liver, Lamb Heart, Lamb Bone, Sunflower Oil, Flaxseed Flakes, Brown Kelp, Lamb Kidney, Cabbage, Broccoli, Chard, Carrot, Cauliflower, Dried Kelp, Calcium Carbonate, Apple, Pear, New Zealand Green Mussel, Beta Carotene, Vitamin D, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Selenium Yeast

You may want to stay away from lamb for a little while and see if it makes a difference in her skin, even the organs. Lamb is lamb, noatter what part. If she clears up, then try it again and see what happens. If it does it again, you know lamb is the problem.

If she really is allergic to lamb, then yes, there's a good chance she will be allergic to any part of the lamb. Meat, organ, bone. Lamb is lamb.

However, have you tried feeding her JUST lamb? I saw you had bad results with k9 instinct, but look at that ingredient list. There's veggies, fruit, eggs, supplements...It's not JUST lamb. She could theoretically have been reacting to any one of those non-lamb ingredients.

Throwing up lamb tripe is not necessarily an indication of an allergy to lamb. Allergies usually manefest through skin problems...Hair loss, red skin, itchy skin, facial swelling. Not vomiting. The vomiting could have been that she's not used to lamb, especially the tripe. If there were other ingredients, it could have been that. At the very worst it could be a food intolerance, which is when the GI system just doesn't agree with a certain food. That leads to vomiting and sometimes diarrhea.

I'm not sure what other lamb items you've tried or if there are any other cases that lead you to believe she's allergic to lamb. But what I would do to find out for sure is try feeding her a small chunk of lamb meat with her meal. Just meat. If you have her on proteins now that you KNOW she does well on and is not allergic to, doesn't make her throw up or have diarrhea, then feeding her just one little chunk with a meal could really tell you something.

If she's been doing fine for weeks on her food, and then you feed her a small bite of lamb, and she throws up, or has diarrhea tomorrow, or has a break out or red skin....Then you know for sure something is up and she shouldn't eat lamb.

This is honestly one of the biggest perks to doing prey model raw with an allergy kid. If you buy each ingredient separate, each protein and organ separate, it's much, MUCH easier to tell what exactly is triggering issues. You might think she's allergic to something in a k9_instinct formula, another commercial raw patty, or in a kibble, but you never know because there's a handful of other ingredients. And sometimes preservatives and other additives.

Hey donna!

No not for a long time. Good idea though though i might have to wait a week to try something new because i bought her turkey mince from supermarket and im not sure if its still her guts recovering from the bad gas or what but she hadnt had the bad farts for a few days and been giving barley water which helps her immensly and she had a awful fart other (but was only a hour later and surely it cant be the turkey mince)then that havent noticed anything yet im trying to introduce tidbits after her colitis flare ups x 2 due to diet it makes me nervous.
n
re k9 natural true true and we know now due to lab results that due to the high content of vegetables in the diet it caused her urine PH to sky rocket.... so get if parents buy lamb ask them to cut a tiny piece for her and feed it? any lamb piece?

re the lamb tripe she had had it before on occasional basis so it was odd i figured it was off due to she is good with ovine tripe which is a sheep? i havent given it for awhile so will try it in a day or two so her rabbit and goat doesnt go off in the process. When she had hair loss her skin did get a bit red but it was our last summer(like now is summer and she not on lamb and had a big flare up on b3elly and around private but gone due to some lotion i use) only thing is she only poo every few days? whats up with that? and when she gets the terrible bad farts gassing out the house she gets big poop and there was green watery stuff at the end no idea what caused it.

She does well on rabbit and goat, rabbit goat and tripe. btw the lamb dry food was acana one.

I also have a possum piece to try again with her but im more then happy to try the lamb before christmas as i dont need to spoil the last christmas with my family over here with jess being off color esp as we are doing secret santa!

please forgive me if didnt make sense jess was licking my right hand which is my domiant hand
oh btw a few weeks ago she tried cooked angust beef fillet steak she was screaming murder for it so had tiniest piece and she was ok so i need to try raw beef sometime(we need some more variety Jessie!))
If she is ok on ovine tripe, then she should be absolutely fine with lamb. I've honestly never heard of a dog being allergic to the baby animal but not the adult. A lamb is sheep, and sheep is sheep. I betcha it was something else in the K9 Instincts lamb formula that was causing it.

Once she is stable on a food, then yes, they can feed her a tidbit of lamb meat. See what happens.

Only pooing once every few days is totally normal for a raw fed dog. You have to remember that there are no fillers. They digest the vast majority of the meat, and what comes out is what is truly waste. Not ingredients that they can't digest or can't use, like with a lot of kibbles. As long as her poo is normal in consistency, I wouldn't worry. She should be having small poos that are firm, but not super dry or crumbly.

Also, as far as the beef goes, just be sure you introduce slowly. Beef is one of the more richer meats, so it can cause GI upset in any dog. Small pieces at a time with meals she's used to.

Oh thats awesome she can have lamb!? really? so happy i could dance if it werent for bad leg and ankle! oh i wish i asked this so much sooner! so its okay to get the lamb kidney and heart from supermarket then!
parents going to be over joyed to hear this news i can tell you!

I wonder what it was she was allergic to in the k9 natural then! btw how high in fat are lamb and pork and beef compared to rabbit goat and venison?

She used to poo daily now im picking up only 3 poos a week and she prefers to go in my parents garden to mine(which i can tell you delighted me when she had that awful big long super soft poo with mint green liquid and it was super strong smelling, yes i picked it up but it left a mess on their lawn and not mine! but poor Jessie at the time)

Thats true no fillers i still somehow expected daily poops though she hardly ever poops on walks either! great money wise on poop bags :) thats compared to how often cooper next door poops lol. They finally have him on acana from nutro! only because be easier for all the dogs when i leave to be on same food.

oh that news makes me so happy!:huddle: btw you can see why i thought she was allergic when she had hair loss then the vomiting with the lamb tripe but not ovine? left me so confused i can tell you!

@Cordane has helped me do all the maths for all the parts i need thanks so much! so she helped me calculate what i need for the bone of each:

Currently back to 5.7kg from 6kg and @125gm a day

need 3.5kg a month

350g organ
350g bone
2.8kg meat

So i broke it down to weekly and came up with

87.5g organ
87.5g bone
.700g meat(100g daily)

So on that note i went to woofles site where i will be ordering from and does this look right please @naturalfeddogs @TiggerBounce, @Cordane ?

I'm not sure about kg vs. lbs. Being in the states, I use lbs.

For you, those prices may be just fine.

Its more is that right for a balanced diet if I got all that then its nutrionally balanced? Not missing anything? Im use grams for daily amount not think a kg is 2.2 pounds

Oh, sorry! Duh! That looks pretty good to me. Maybe add one more protein when you order next. But I wouldn't complain about that. However, you do need some bone in there though.

Got veal necks for bone in there but need 1 more set of bone in? Lol no worries! That's good news as don't want her missing important nutrients in her diet! Can say beef liver be used as another protein for example? Going to order in new year. So far protein wise horse venison and veal from memory thought only need three proteins? How often to rotate the protein in the month? Weekly? As jess can have sensitive system

Bone is best in variety as well as proteins, so adding a couple more won't hurt.

Liver is an organ, not a protein. It can be fed as a weekly meal, or small amounts during the week.

Really, a minimum of four proteins is going to be best nutritionally. For example, beef, lamb, chicken and venison. But of course, the more the better!

Feeding a different protein daily is best. The more you rotate daily, the better they get the nutrients they need on a regular basis, rather than going weeks or months, missing stuff.

Ah ok maybe the first week I alternate protein every two days so know no reaction then do daily dont need upset guts lol.

she can't have raw chicken but will try pork at some stage. She just had tiny piece lamb to try. What bone in pieces are safe eg if I were to buy lamb brisket bones or lamb rack would they be ok? What bone on pieces to stay away from please?

her skin is clear with tad red from itching under chest and mum doing roast lamb so we gave her tiny piece to try.

If she reacts in anyway after having ovine tripe which fine with will be surprised and @TiggerBounce will be shocked that she told me on Facebook!
So its been five hours now? And skin clear on belly. Will see later on in morning onwards her stools. Btw picked up a 7cm long poo today! Was also from other day? A poop that look bulky but must been way pooped as didn't seem as big when picked up.

Rotating that way in the beginning is really best. One protein at a time for a couple of weeks at a time just to watch for any possible allergy issues. That way you know what protein is the culprit, but after transition try to give something different each day.

Lamb ribs are a good bone source, so are lamb shoulders. Those are easy to chew and digest. Stay away from the weight bearing bones. Brisket should be fine as well.
