Cash is two years old, she is a beautiful aussie mix. She is moderately timid (which I work on) and likes time to warm up to strangers inside the home (she is fine meeting people away from the house). She is not the type of dog you correct loudly. She is smart, she knows when she messed up. So a serious voice, not even necessarily overly stern, gets her attention. Here is the problem. Over the course of a week (about 5 months ago), she peed in the bed three times - at night, while I was sleeping. The third time, I woke up and it almost sounded like she was licking up her urine as it was coming out. The other two times, her backside was completely wet like she peed in her sleep. I took her to the vet that week, they ran a urinalysis and blood work. Came back clean. The thought she may have incontinence, which I was unsure of and therefore was hesitant to start her on lifelong medication. It stopped for about three months. Then it happened again about a month ago, and again last night. I let her out every night around 9:30 and again around 6:45 in the morning. Last night, I noticed it around 11:45, so I got up and let her out. I am at a loss. She has no accidents during the day, only at night and always in the bed where and while I sleep. I will start her on the medication, but nothing about this says incontinence to me (it seems inconsistent and I have heard the sound of her almost lapping it up as it is happening?). She clearly knows she messed up, she does the look and walk of shame and peers around the corner as I change the sheets. I have an older dog who sleeps next to the bed and in the other room. Thoughts? Thank you so much.
