Hello, I know that the mini/teacup chihuahua is not recognized as a breed, but still there exist chihuahuas which are very tiny. I am considering buying a mini chihuahua or a mini yorkshire terrier but I am not sure which is smaller. I tried to search for the size of teacup chihuahuas but I could not find anything exact. Is there someone who would be able to compare the size of the adult teacup chihuaha and the adult mini yorkshire terrier? I would be really happy to see some photos, too Thank you very much!!!

Very small chihuahuas and yorkies only exist because people chose to breed two runts. Think of the complications of birth for these dogs...its bad. Why do you need a "toy", why not get a normal one? Normal sized chi's and yorkies are small enough, my chi is ~5lbs and only 5 due to being a little chubby right now.

lol its an "open can of worms".

Teacup dogs tend to hit a major nerve with many dog owners. Personally its not som'thing I'd put my money toward or promote in any way.

A lot of times, the extra tiny chi's and yorkies have added health problems and some but not all, can have life long special needs associated with Hypoglycemia.

Symptoms of hypoglycemia: Symptoms include but are not limited to: Slow heartbeat and breathing, weak, sleepy, disoriented, wobbly, glassy eyed, and seizures. In some cases pets may lose consciousness and fall into a coma. Pets can die from hypoglycemia if they do not receive treatment.

Seems like a lot to bring into an already little one's life, just for a sake of a couple of pounds. Is it worth the risk to you? Most Yorkies and regular sized Chihuahuas are what....about 2 to 6 lbs anyway? If that isn't small enough perhaps a hamster is a better choice.

But then again, what do I know? I have a teacup English Mastiff.
She will probably only mature to be about 158 lbs
I just don't have the room for a 160 pounder around here....lol

Would your last name be Hilton by chance?? Ok... teacup is liken to dwarfism imo and should not be encouraged in a recognized breed that has a written standard. By promoting "teacup" anything it bastardizes that poor breed. Not to mention the mortality rate from birthing and rearing such small dogs to both the mother and pups.

You probably couldn't find anything exact because they are not a breed and there is no standardized size for teacup/mini/toy/runt/whatever-tiny-name-sells. The standard weight for a Chihuahua is 6 pounds & under and for Yorkies is 7 pounds & under. How small of a dog where you looking for exactly?

I know about the health problems which are caused by the small size, so I don't want the tiniest one. I have seen an adult mini yorkshire but I have never seen a mini chihuahua (only on photos), this is why I asked someone to compare them.

Why exactly would one require a dog smaller than 6 lbs? There is absolutely no reason for it. Beyond all the health issues related to a itsy bitsy dog, I can't possibly understanding needing a pup much smaller than that. I've had guinea pigs that weigh more than that. Hell, my Dachshund is 11 lbs and that is plenty small.

my 2 chihuahuas are smaller than 6 lbs....thats what you get when you get a chihuahua..... however, a "toy" or "miniature" implies you are concerned about having the smallest of the small.

My smallest dog is around 6ish lbs. About the size of a large guinea pig. I rarely meet smaller, full grown chis and when I do...they look sickly. My chi is mixed with dachshund...so shes stocky and short.

Keep in mind, little legs break easier, Personally, I like my chis stocky, because the fine boned ones make me nervous...all toothpick legged and all. I watched my aunts toy poodle puppy break its leg in front of me jumping off a couch...she was about 5lbs at the time. Very sad...these little dogs can be fragile.

Reminds me of my 5 lb toy fox. I swear his front legs are no wider around than my index finger.
