I'm looking to get insurance for my 10-month-old dog but am not sure which company to go with.

My dog is currently on a Banfield plan which I intend on renewing as it covers all appointments, vaccinations, dental, etc., but I would like to add insurance as well in case of emergencies.

I've been looking primarily at Healthy Paws as they come highly recommended by a friend of mine, but as I'm honestly not well-versed in all of the different insurance companies, I'm open to all suggestions and recommendations. Thanks!

I’m with Healthy Paws as well.
The good thing about them is: there is no annual or lifetime cap and they don’t have a “max-out” age, from when the dog would not be covered anymore because of age.
I used them already and the claims (4 bills in total) were completed within 3 days (even though it was the first time, so they had to do some more on their end than for the following ones).
Also, what I misunderstood and I actually have to reread the policy again, they do cover the vet visit if it is not a routine visit. I thought they never cover the vet visit fee, just everything beyond the standard fee, but they do seem to cover it for accidents (broken nail and pretty badly bleeding puppy  ).

However: I do not have any experience with other pet insurance plans, so can’t really speak in comparison.

Thanks for the info!

I ended up going with Healthy Paws-- all the positive reviews (both online as well as from people I know) and your recommendation made it an easy decision!

We have had VPI for Samantha, since we adopted her. VPI is now Nationwide. I have always had at least my premium returned during the year, and the one year she was really sick, a lot more. I raised the deductible this year, to control the premium, as she is getting older, and the premiums are age adjusted, but I also do not feel we can be without that protection.

Anyone have any recommendations on good Pet Insurance companies in Canada? Our dog has cost us a fortunate recently due to infections (food allergy related I believe) and it would be great to have this to help. I looked up Healthy Paws but I think it is only available to the US.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks,
Kerri
