My spaniel has dead skin on his elbows, kind of like extreme human dandruff, and there's not any hair on said elbows. Is this normal? He also has traces of dead skin and cuts on his back for no explainable reason. Help?

Is it possible for you to post a picture of it? We're not vets but perhaps a member here has dealt with the same thing before.

The first thing that leaps to my mind is food allergies-however the cuts on the back are strange.

*How long have you had the dog=and when did this start?

*What does the dog eat?

*What other changes have occured that you can think of (in routine, food, exercise, household-anything)

on the elbows its usually a callus...from the dog repeatedly laying there.. the skin toughens up and no hair grows there anymore

Its shouldn't be really really flakey tho...

sounds like your dog may have an allergy to som'thing :)

It's not super patchy, it dosent flake off, but its not attached to the skin. Might be callouses, he's had them for a while, but has them bad at the cottage. I still can't think of what might be on his back. He is also just recovering from Yeast, so it may be a negative side effect from the meds...
