hey all. i have a 6-7 month hound. the guy i rescued him from said his father was american beagle(taller) and he thinks the mother was basset. now to me looks like a hound but neither of those breeds. anyway my question is when i take him for walks in the wood or even help peaple track hunted animals, i.e downed deer, he never barks or howls. most hounds have that distinct howl, correct? does that come with age or is he just not a howler? he does bark when hes excited or wants to eat but its a regular "woof woof" kinda bark. what gives?

Has he been around other howling dogs? What does he do then? Sometimes they seem to copy what other dogs do?

I haven't had a hound either so I'm no help ;)

I haven't owned a howler either, but I know some dogs don't start really finding their voice until they are a year old...it depends on the individual.
