Hi everyone,

Sorry for back-to-back posts, just want to cover what I can off the bat.

My girlfriend and I plan to be travelers, whether it is in the US (where we currently reside) or other countries.

I got us a puppy which we have talked about wanting a lot before. There were lots of conversation that led to putting it off before and we finally pulled the trigger last night!

I feel like it's normal to have a bit of worry, some anxiety and panic after making such a big decision as this. She's really worried we are going to be very held back in our ability to travel with him once he's older, and even now in our day to day life will revolve around him.

Is there anything I can read and show her to put her mind to rest that this puppy will not stop us from traveling long term? I honestly feel like people travel with big dogs a lot (he's a heeler mix-- expected to be about 80lbs full grown). Maybe I'm crazy and this was a horrid idea, but I want what's best for the pup and us.

Thanks,
Dillon

It will depend on the nature of your dog. Heelers are very loyal and can sometimes be a bit unpredictable around other people but if your dog is people friendly, as long as they are with you they will probably be happy. A very anxious dog might not like changes so again it will depend on the dogs personality. Put in lots of time and effort in the early days to ensure good socialisation and lots of positive encouragement and keep that very clever little mind busy and challenged.
