Officially introducing Luna and the Space Litter! Names of each pup on their photos. There are 3 girls, and 9 boys in this litter. The name mom had before just didn't fit her, and she did not respond to it in the slightest. They are so small for 4 week olds, and act more like 3 week olds which is no surprise since I was expecting them to be developmentally behind due to their past. Their history, for my understanding is Luna was the son's dog, he was gone most of the time though so the mom ended up having to care for her and while there is no hate in the slightest towards her past family as they did the best they could, they lacked the knowledge and resources to properly care for mom and babies. Mom was kept in a crate a lot of the time with all her babies, having no way to get away from them, their nails were never cut, leaving her to sit through painful feedings. She was fed poorly, and the babies were only just starting to get fed by the people, so they are a tad underweight since Luna was stuck being their main source of food, and just not able to keep up with the needs of 12 puppies. Turns out as well that dad is the other dog who was living in the house. There was also improper handling of the babies and a lot of unwanted attention for poor momma who just wanted to rest by a young child in the house too. Not a good situation for them, but am thankful the family did the right thing by them and found a rescue to take on everyone so they will get good homes and never have litters of their own.

Rough start to the morning at 5am, woke to the sound of pups screaming, momma was playing keep away and they all wanted to eat, so it was frustrating them. She fussed a bit but thankfully did quiet down for the night, so besides for having to get up at 5, it was a good night. The babies, besides being a bit thin, seem extremely healthy physically, they are active and playful; In everything else, all need a lot of work, they flinch when touched a lot of the time, and don't understand that petting is something to enjoy, probably only handled when changing blankets and stuff I would say just from the way they behave, so have never known someone just being there to love on them. They are extremely mouthy and startle at every sound, all of which is being worked on. Nails and first worming is done.

Luna has had a rough time settling, stressed and often anxious. It is clear just how stressed and exhausted Luna has been, being forced to stay with them has taken it out of her, and she is not thrilled about having to nurse, she growls at them because of the pain. When not nursing, she is passed out on the floor and doesn't stir until something wakes her. Been spending most of our time in one room, letting her rest and settle, she is so worried about everything right now and alarms if someone comes into the room too fast, only until she sees it's them though, then she's perfectly fine. We are careful to make sure she knows we are there before touching her while she sleeps, just in case. She is being extremely sweet and loved everyone in the house from the moment she first saw them. Right now, I feel time and rest is all she needs, she has had it rough for the last 4 weeks, now that she can finally rest without them all over her, she is taking full advantage of this.

Enjoy the first of many weekly photos with these guys! Also included a photo of mom Luna, and the dad! How cool is it to see both parents? Many more photos to come of these sweethearts in the near future!

At least, the family made the effort to re-home Luna and her pups with your rescue group. It sounds like they kept the dad. Did they get the dad neutered? If not, perhaps your rescue group could encourage them to do so. By now they surely realize that they have no business bringing more puppies in the world!

I love the astronomical theme of this litter. Luna is just a wonderful calming name for the mom.

Once again, you've got your work cut out for you! I look forward to reading all about their progress over the next month (and seeing photos of their sweet faces!)

Yes, they did keep dad, and my rescue is helping them get him neutered since the owners were asked, and said they wanted to get him fixed. They for sure didn't mean for Luna to have pups in the first place, just bad management on their parts. Thankful they did the right thing by her and her pups!

This is what it looks like when you feed 12 puppies. ;) All are doing well, and learning a lot. Today I introduced them to a bunch of sounds, fireworks, vacuum, and hair dryer, just to name a few, and interesting toys and textured items that make noise. They are getting their first bath, and going for their first stroller ride today. They also got their first crate to explore and sleep in. All of been introduced to outside, beginning right off the house training process. These pups have clearly never been exposed to, or done much in their life as they have very little desire to explore and startle at a great deal, they also get overloaded easily, just a simple play session in the kitchen and some outside time can send them into shaking and acting completely exhausted. There is so much to see and do for them now, it is a bit overwhelming to them, this however is okay as it helps their minds grow as long as one knows not to push them too far, at which time it would create bad associations. The next stage in their game is to start eating out of crates, exploring other parts of the house, and building general confidence with the world around them. They have a long road ahead, but I know I can get them set to rights!

Momma Luna is for sure showing improvements in most areas. She has become much more comfortable and will rest for lengths of time, no longer endlessly pacing and whining. I was finally able to give her a bath today, something she wouldn't let me do when I brought her home, and she is earning more freedom around the house. She still alarms at things easily, but this is becoming less often. She is excellent on leash, and has been doing great ignoring the cats and just gives other dogs a sniff and moves on. I see a playful, goofy side to her that I know will come out once she is more comfortable with everything. It's been a tough couple days for Luna most of all, but we will keep working through it!

I couldn't imagine calling them puppy, or by numbers, lol. Everyone has to have a name which I learn and remember.

I think most people question my sanity at one time or another, LOL! Even I question it in some moments :p

She is extremely happy for the help without a doubt!

When you are trying to get laundry done, and your dog comes over, sits in front of what you are doing, and looks at you like this!

And then... babies! I say it every litter, and I am never wrong because each one is, but they are just the cutest! Much work to still be done, but coming along nicely so far!

They are adorable.

In that first photo of Cosmo, it looks like his coat is faintly brindled? I am only seeing it on his darker front foot...?could be the lighting. I hope mama dog finds a great home, she looks like she's the sweetest girl and has such a pretty smile...and seems interested in what you are doing.

AU's often in my way when I'm trying to get housework done, but he's a bit leery of the utility room. I think since his hip operation, he's cautious around hard surface floors. I have vinyl down in the utility room, but he doesn't like the kitchen's oak floor either - although he will go about 1 1/2 of his body's length into the kitchen but no more than that. He will stand at the door of the utility room and just watch. I think the washer when it's on scares him a little. It does, however, keep him out of my way...and out of the cat box which is in there too. :p

Thanks for posting more photos. I know it takes a chunk of time to upload and posts...your efforts don't go unnoticed by me, even if sometimes it takes me a few days to read them and respond...between my bad internet recently and my bad back always...keeping from sitting in my computer chair for too long.

That's Rocket actually :) He is not brindled, just the lighting. Several of them though do have ghost brindle, can barely see it. She is the sweetest girl! Quickly becoming the perfect dog, good with kids, cats, dogs, house trained & crate trained, you name it, she already has it! Very rare thing to find such a dog in rescue, someone is going to be so lucky! She is my shadow around the house and such a loving girl.

I mean... I guess it works? lol. I totally get the under your feet, Luna is great at that ;P

I am glad you enjoy them! I enjoy making these posts.

I feel like I have been doing a lot of these, but I guess it's just because this litter is older than most I get, and as such they need more work.

This is their current setup. They started out with the full room, covered in newspaper right up to their bedding, after a few days, I started moving it back, and got the newspaper a good way from their bedding without accidents. They quickly started figuring out the dog door which was opened a few days ago, and now that they are getting in and out well, I cut their space in about half, leaving just a bit of newspaper, and shortly that will be removed too. They always go outside to poop now, and rarely pee anymore, pretty good for 4.5 week old pups, right? Keep in mind this space is only for when they are sleeping, the rest of the time they are out playing in the kitchen, or doing individual time with me, this small a space would never be okay if you were going to confine them most of the time.

They have a crate to sleep in, which conditions a positive association with sleeping in one, bedding is kept light weight since it's so hot currently, and water always at the ready which they are drinking excellently now. They have just switched to dry kibble, telling me plainly by their trying to get into their mom's bowl all the time when I forgot to pick it up, that they were ready. They love their food, and the brand they are on (Nature's domain) I am extremely pleased with!

They are doing much better with most things, they chase after people, tails wagging now, are quickly learning that biting people is not okay, and startle less at sounds. They still don't like certain noises, such as the vacuum cleaner, but this is being worked with slowly. They still have very little adventurous nature at this point, but I have noticed a small increase, no longer acting shutdown and wanting to stay only in the same situation all the time, and they love coming out and running around the kitchen. They all get daily individual time, which is mostly spent sitting on the couch getting one one one attention, it does them a lot of good, and helps me learn their personalities better all the time. Leash training begins soon, and getting them out in the front yard as a group will be happening shortly once we have some cool weather. Overall, slow but steady progress in the right direction.

The face says it all. Poor girl is so done with nursing all these giant puppies. She is such a good mom though, and has so much milk. She will ask to go in to feed, then give a long sigh and look at me like this, lol. No more having litters ever again for this pretty girl thankfully!

Happy 5 Weeks Old! This photo session was like trying to wrangle a wild bull, so bear with me if these photos aren't the best 馃槀 These babies are growing like crazy, and for the first time ever we have three pups tied for the lead on weight, Juliet, Mars, and Rocket are the three biggest currently, we will have to see who pulls ahead. Altair remains the smallest. Brief personality descriptions as I have found them for each pup are listed, most are still coming into their own, so more detailed ones coming next week.

Luna, 66lbs: I could go on and on about this girl, I just adore her! My walking buddy, shadow around the house, big cuddle pup. She is sweet, loves everyone and everything. Is ready to chill, or go adventuring depending on what you are looking for in that moment. She has a silly side which has me laughing just when I need it most. She is just an awesome dog!

Altair, 3.11lbs: What he lacks in size, he totally makes up for in spunk! He will not take a bit of their nonsense of they try to pick on him, giving everything they dish out back and then some. He has a very adventurous personality, with a goofy, playful nature and also likes to cuddle on laps.

Comet, 5.5lbs: Outgoing, playful boy. He has a very intelligent nature and reminds me a lot of a border collie both in coloring and temperament. He has great focus and picks up on things very quickly.

Cosmo, 5.2lbs: His personality is coming through more slowly than some of his siblings. So far he is friendly, and playful with a talkative side on occasion. A bit more independent in nature at this moment in time.

Halo, 4.9lbs: He loves his toys, middle range on energy and often easy going. He loves to talk. He too is still coming into his personality.

Juliet, 5.11lbs: Outgoing and active, she's such a pretty girl and has a very pleasing nature. She has one of the higher energy levels of the litter. She loves to run, go on adventures, and play with her siblings, along with giving kisses and wagging at everyone.

Leo, 4.15lbs: Quiet and lower energy, he is often one of the first to go down for a nap. Playful and likes to cuddle.

Lyra, 5lbs: Bold and sweet describes this girl perfectly! She adores people, turning into instant wiggle at the sight of anyone and loves to give endless kisses. She is playful and leads the charge into almost everything.

Mars, 5.11lbs: I love this boy, he is so sweet and mature in nature. One of the lowest energy, he has a very laid back personality a lot of the time. When he has some get up and go, he loves to play with his siblings. Excellent focus and loves to learn.

Orion, 4.9lbs: Friendly, often gentle boy. Lower energy, but for sure enjoys playing and running around. He has a kind nature and enjoys lap time

Pandora, 4.6lbs: Sweet girl who is playful and likes to follow everyone's lead. Like several of her siblings, tends to have a more gentle nature. Giving kisses, and getting belly rubs are two of her favorite things.

Rigel, 4.8lbs: Very gentle and calm with a wild side. He is one of the lowest energy and also tends to be super kind and quiet, but every once in awhile he has this moment of complete feisty where he runs around and takes on everyone!

Rocket, 5.11lbs: One of my favorites! Sweet as pie, goofy and loves to talk. He wants to be wherever the people are. He enjoys cuddle time, loves to play with his siblings, and go on adventures.
