Hello I'm brand new to this site. I have a 13 y.o M cat I've had him for 6 yrs and I just got a 8 m.o M chihuahua rescue foster pup 3 days ago.

The foster pup just got neutered today. He is doing great and only has a tiny little scar that doesn't look like it will take long to heal at all at least at this point ...

Anyways so yesterday I found out he has ticks, he had been running around my house with them for a day until I noticed, so we bathed him in dawn soap and flea soap and gave him flea/tick meds. I found out today while out back cleaning up his poop he has worms as well, there were also what looked to be like dead worms all over the couch he slept on last night.

We gave him the flea/tick meds yesterday, how long does it take for them to die off? I am very concerned of the ticks laying eggs and hatching. I am concerned of an infestation ..I have vacuumed and mopped every floor and washed all bedding/blankets he has been on. Are there any tips/tricks to try and fully get rid of any possible ticks that jumped off of him and the eggs they lay?

Also I won't be able to give him his worm meds until tomorrow after he starts to eat and drink normally again. The foster owner is bringing me meds tomorrow she said it is a powder that gets sprinkled on his food, I've never heard of this kind of medicine, does it work?

My main question is it okay to leave him in his crate most of the time for the weekend? I really don't want his parasites spreading to my cat or causing an infestation and until I can fully treat him I don't really want him running around all over furniture and all that. Is it cruel to leave him in there? Which I am hanging out w him in the same room but I think it would be best to leave him in his crate for most of the time today and tomorrow. I also work an 8-5 job M-F he does great in his crate all day he is very laid back but in concerned it's too much time in the kennel. What do you think or do you have any advice for me? Thank you

Also, he may not mind the scar right now, but around day 7 it might really start itching, so make sure he can't lick it or you'll have a whole other situation to deal with. :(

As for the medication, was the dog not vetted and dewormed? I know he was neutered, but the rescue should have had a complete checkup done prior to being given over you.
