Hey everyone!
This is my first post
I have a question I thought I'd ask before emptying the wallet at the vet.
My girlfriend and I bought a German Shepherd/Lab mix a few months back. We got him at about 4ish months old. He's now about 6.5 months old. When we got him, he lived with the mom, and 2 other dogs, never had any vaccinations when we got him.
After getting him, we took him to the vet and he had his first vaccinations and a check over, and all was well. He also got his rabies shot. Again, all is well.
We never took the dog back for the boosters they recommended for 2 week intervals for 2-3 times. I've done some research and there are many conflicts with this as many believe in it, and many believe it to be a money grabber.
Now to my question... Also at the vet, they gave us the worm meds. 2 packets and each had 2 large pills in them. 2 that day, 2 a week from then.
Again, other than some diahrreah and whatnot the day taking them, he was fine.
Lately, we've noticed a bit of blood in his stool. Only at the very tip, and about the size of a dime. I haven't looked closely yet to see if I can see the little white worms. Nothing else has been affected. He runs and plays well (if not excessively) and his diet and water intake is good. I just don't know if this is something that can be attributed to worms, something worse, and if its something I should just take a wait and see approach on.
It's not streaky or anything. It's literally a very small circle of blood on or near the end of the stool (not sure if its the end that comes out first or last, if that matters)
A week or 2 ago he did go a few days with some pretty watery diarrhea, but this I think is chalked up to overfeeding. Once we limited the food intake the movements became more solid. Just thought I'd mention it if there's possibly any relation.
Any input would be wonderful.
Thanks!
