one of my friend took care of my dog for 4 days. I gave him 12 cups of dog food and couple of packs of toppers along with chicken and grounded turkey.
He got confused with toppers and feed him all the toppers as regular food with cooked chicken and grounded turkey.
when he returned him to me, looks like he only used 2 cups of his dog food.
now my dog is not very active and moody. I’ve got appointment with vet but it’s 2 week from now. Let me know if I need to find different vet who is available in a day or two or emergency?

Does these symptoms related to highly over Feeding of toppers?

Hi.

Is your dog on a special diet? If not, if the toppers are only to increase palatability, then 4 days isn’t likely to do any lasting damage, so for something like that, I’d just get him on his regular diet and watch and wait.

If he is on a special diet, (for example, diabetes), then I’d make an appointment with another vet asap.

Bear in mind, some toppers are nutritionally balanced meals in themselves.

We have time to adjust to diet regimes for our pets, and adding in nice things like toppers. When our friends, relatives, dog/cat/house sitters take over, it’s not really fair on them to expect them to adjust to the level of complexity that we ourselves adapt to. Just slap (not literally) the dog food down, and say “feed x amount of this y number of times a day” then slap a separate tin/box/bin and go “that’s the treat [container]”. Things like toppers I would just leave out altogether.

Like LMMB said, unless they're on a special diet, four days shouldn't do any real harm. Probably, they're just feeling bloated from overeating. It should help to walk them a bit more often until the bowels clear - though because they may find it uncomfortable, you'll want to let them set the pace when you do. The only other risk I can think of for an otherwise healthy dog is intestinal blockage/impaction, but as long as they're still eating and drinking normally that's very unlikely. Hope your pup feel better soon!

How old is your dog? Any issues with kidneys or liver? Is he eating his regular food now no problem? Drinking water ok? If the toppers are high in fat, I would watch for pancreatitis, or high in protein with a kidney disorder, but otherwise I would also figure 4 days wouldn't do too much harm except make a digestion upset and make him feel uncomfortable until the food is digested and outta there.

Thanks LMMB, emeraldecho and Schnauzaluv for your inputs.
Zeke is 18 months old. He don't have any issues with kidneys or liver. He is not on any special diet.
For now he is drinking fine and eating is not bad as he is usually very picky with food. He energy levels were down 1st day but improved with day 2 and 3.
Try to get on with this normal diet, play time and walking. Looks like he is getting better.
