Let me start this by saying that my dog is under the care of several vets for this condition - so please don't delete this and tell me to go to the vet.

My puppy is a 22 month old lab/mastiff mix. Three weeks ago she got into some Meloxicam while I was out of town. No clue how many she ate (if any) because she broke the container over a vent. She was given peroxide to throw up and taken to the vet for baseline bloodwork. She was also given several preventative medicines for ulceration. She had diarrhea for several days but that cleared up and her repeated bloodwork was normal.

I thought we were in the clear. But no.

Several days after being cleared and over a week after the incident she started vomiting. At first it was just bile. I didn't worry but then she consistently started throwing up twice a day for three days. Sometimes bile. Sometimes mushy food. Sometimes grass and mucus. I took her to the vet and she had a fever of 104.5. They kept her and gave her fluids and meds. It broke quickly and she was sent home. She went two days without vomiting but then it started again. So they did an ultrasound. Nothing significant was found. One part of her liver was a little bright and one of her lymph nodes in her small intestines was enlarged. She had a fever, too. Not super high but still.

The internist suggested checking for tick bourne illnesses and an intestinal parasite. Both were negative. Her stool is normal. She's acting completely normal. She did 10 days of antibiotics. Her temperature is normal now. But this morning she puked again - after over a week with no puking. The puking doesn't seem food related. She usually pukes 5-8 hours after eating. And from what I can tell there's never been blood in her vomit.

I'm at my wits end with vomit and not knowing what's wrong with my dog. She's eating, drinking, pooping, and playing. Even with a 104.5 fever she was her normal goofy self.

Has anyone been through something similar?

I strongly recommend talking to the internist about doing an endoscopy... that way one can actually see the esophagus, inside of the stomach and proximal small intestine and see if there is focal inflammation or some damage that may have been caused by the Meloxicam. I assume she has been/is on Sucralfate for a few weeks and Omeprazole? Has anyone suggested a jejunostomy tube and continued treatment for vomiting for an extended period of time (not an internist, but I have seen that done sometimes, often with success)?

I have a feeling that a scope will be coming if this continues. We haven't had any vomiting (knock on wood) since the Saturday episode so I haven't spoken to the vet. She's no longer on any medications but yes sucralfate was one that she took most often and for the longest.

I'm not sure why a feeding tube would be discussed? She's eating orally, isn't losing weight, and rarely throws up food. I can't imagine what kind of nightmare that would be. Crazy 80-pound lab puppy with a feeding tube. Can't even imagine! Haha.
