I have a 6 month old Lab mix. I have had her since she was 6 weeks old. My husband and I tried to get her to like her cage then, she was not having it at all. When she was a little bit older we tried again she would do ok while we were home and within view of her cage as soon as we stepped out of view she would go crazy barking whining and everything. We tried leaving her in there for a few hours while at work and she pooped and flung the poop everywhere from inside her wire cage, all over the kitchen. We said enough got a baby gate and the kitchen was her area. Last week she got a hold of window cleaner that was a spray can that scared me not to mention the wooden base boards and window sill that she has chewed. I have tried everything she does not stay off the counters and will chew anything that does not have bitter apple on it. I do not know what else to do. And its not just while shes in the crate it can be i leave her in the kitchen gate closed while im taking a shower or going up stairs for a second. I have no clue what to do any more!

Have you contacted a trainer/behaviorist experienced with anxiety?
Also, what's her normal day like? How much exercise and training do you do? What steps did you take to get her use to the crate/exercise pen?

She's a Lab? I doubt this is anxiety. When you come back--is she shaking? Does she stick close to you? Does she refuse to get away from you? Does she whine and seem sad when you're away from her?

With Labs, I think the chewing's just normal. My dog did it when she was a puppy too. Labs do chew, so simply puppy proof the room before you leave.
