I have a 7 month old coon hound mix puppy. She has a sensitive stomach and throws up from any new foods and from the car so I am used to her throwing up. Her vet isn't open today and she woke up at 6 am this morning and vomited 9 times, basically until she has not food left in her. She then pooped twice. Her stools we soft but formed. She seems fine now shes playing like crazy and acting normal but I was still a little worried. Any suggestions?

Also she has a section of hair on her head that is thinning. Its about the size of a dime. I can see her skin and it looks fine. She never itches it and the vet always comments how good her skin and coat are. She has had this spot for months but it just started bothering me, I dont know if it got bigger. I just gave her a bath so I think it might be because I removed all of the shedding hair. My neighbors dog had mange before I got my dog. I brought her over their and they said it could be but her skin looks fine. They gave me some of the lotion they had for their dog to try for a couple days and see if anything changes.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I read something online that this can happen to puppies and it can resolve itself on its own.

Take away her food and water for the next few hours or so to allow her stomach to rest. In about 6 hours, offer her some water and see if she holds it down. If she holds it down for an hour, give her a few tablespoons of boiled chicken and rice (BLAND food). If she holds that down, you can offer her a few tablespoons every couple of hours. If she vomits more or becomes lethargic, she needs to go to the emergency vet for fear of dehydration.

If she does well with this, then I'd continue the chicken and rice only for about 3 days and then start reintroducing her normal food gradually.

Usually with dogs that are vomiting, you should withhold food and water for 24 hours... but since she's acting totally normally I think it would be safe to try introducing things sooner.

Could she have eaten something she shouldn't? Is she outside unsupervised at all? Is she a garbage eater? Is she fully vaccinated?

Sounds like you may have some localized demodex starting. Usually in puppies, localized demodex can go away on it's own unless the pup's immune system is overwhelmed. You should probably get her into the vet sometime this week to make sure that is what it is. If it spreads, other treatment will be necessary. There are other mites or infection that it could be that would warrant treatment, so it's best to at least have your vet take a look and check it out.

Shes not a garbage eater but she has eaten the stuffing of toys before and vomited it up. I have a feeling it may be that. Shes on really good food, I feed her Taste of the Wild High Praire forumla.

She is fully vaccinated for rabies, distemper series, bordella and lyme. She was at the vet a week ago and just finished all her puppy visits. Do you think its a bad idea to use my neighbors lotion on her spot? Its what he used on his lab mix when it had mange. He skin looks fine and the spot doesn't smell weird or anything.

I would stick with the chicken and rice for a few days and then get her back on her normal food. Hopefully if it is the stuffing she'll vomit it up or poop it out.

I would not use the lotion because you don't know what the spot is. If it's a skin infection as opposed to Demodex, you're medicating her for something she doesn't have.

Okay, thank you. She has been really good all day and playing. She has been drinking water fine and hasn't thrown up since this morning.

I will keep an eye on the bald spot and let you know if anything changes.
