Over the weekend my dog with with my fiance at a big event. He handed her off to someone briefly so he could do something, and when he came back her ear was covered in blood. Apparently the unleashed dog wandering around had been playing with her and something went wrong and he bit her ear, though no one saw it happen. What I heard was that there was skin hanging by a flap, they cleaned it and put antibiotic ointment on it, and then superglued it shut. She was very traumatized by all this and had to be muzzled during it (she's never aggressive but was biting my fiance during the treatment).

Anyone have opinions on how this was handled? So far it's been holding together and looks ok, if a little messy. I plan on giving her a bath tonight so that I can wash it without focusing on it (which I think would freak her out again), and then applying more antibiotic ointment or maybe some bag balm. We're wondering if we should take her for stitches, but ultimately feeling that as long as the glue is holding it together, it should be ok as far as scarring and healing without a gap. I just want to make sure that there's no medical reason she would suffer from this treatment.
We don't really have the money right now to be pouring into this injury, and the other dog's owner was not forthcoming in offering to help pay for it. I'd like to avoid having to ask him, as he's a friend, but if it becomes necessary, we'll take her to the vet.

Poor baby. Sounds like you took care of it pretty well. I would only add that if it starts looking inflamed at all or she is acting uncomfortable, take her to the vet because she might need additional meds or antibiotics. Maybe a cone to keep her from digging at that ear when it gets to the healing itchy stage. I would keep using the antibiotic ointment for a few more days too until it looks like the wound is healing well. Hoping for a fast recovery!

I agree with @griffinflames on the cone. I would probably get the cone relatively soon though even if it isn't itching yet, she could accidentally scratch it if she was trying to scratch her head or neck etc.

Keep a close eye on it, if any bacteria got trapped in it when it was glued it could get infected.

Flappy ears tend to heal easy. My dog was bit on the lower side of her flappy ear, and we didn't even need to use stitches. Just keep it clean and let it heal on her own. Our vet said that based on where the bite was, the skin was going to be moving that much anyways and it would close fine on her own. Just keep it clean and monitor it!
