I have recently become the Foster home for a female 8 month retriever mix named Nomad. I do not know her full story, but most of her issues are things that I can help her with. The one thing I would like some advice on is her issue with eliminating.

She won't do it, she will hold it in until she absolutely cannot hold it anymore. I've had her for 3 1/2 days and she has only done her business (pooped and peed) twice. She will not go in her crate, or in my yard, or if I take her for walks. She has only gone to the bathroom while I am at work and she is in one of the rooms there. (I work at a Dog Boarding/Daycare Kennel) It doesn't seem to matter how long I have taken her out for she will not go.

She is severely malnourished and underfed, so I was thinking that maybe that had something to do with her not going to the bathroom that often, at least when it comes to pooping. But I can't understand why she will not go pee. She drinks a lot of water, several bowls a day, but she has only gone pee twice since I've gotten her, once on Monday, and once again today.

Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Some dogs don't like being watched or having people around. Is there any way to put her outside and then go in and wait for her to go?
She may have been punished for going to the bathroom in the house in the past and is now scared to go while someone is around.
