Hey everyone,
I'm sure you've noticed me posting here a couple of times regarding my dogs biopsy. He has a tiny black scab (about 1/8 inch in diameter) around his butt and the vet wants to do a biopsy. He's had it for a couple of years and it's never grown or anything. However, the vet won't tell me what the probability that my dog has melanoma is, and it's freaking me out. He said since he's had it for so long there's a chance it could have spread to the rest of his body. I wish he could have given me more comforting words, but it's his job to be honest, the same way my dermatologist was with me when i had to have a patch of skin removed and tested. STILL, I'm freaking out! It almost feels like I'm preparing myself for my dog's death, which i know is ridiculous. I should note that my dog hasn't shown signs of being sick... he still eats like a little piggy, he goes to the bathroom regularly and despite showing minor signs of aging (he's 8), he's still my silly little guy! I've already gotten so much love and support from this site, but has anyone had experience with this? Am I worrying too much? Thank you...!

I'm so sorry to hear this! I would be a frantic mess if I wasn't given any answers too.

I hope this eases your mind a bit but, my mom's cocker spaniels had similar "black moles" around his bottom. She hadn't noticed them (he was a chocolate color so, the "black moles" were easily concealed) until he started to itch himself and they would scab over. We took him to the vet and got the biopsy done and it turned out that they were just moles (the vet told her that these types of moles around the anus are some-what common and nothing to be worried about) and the scabs were from him itching and and going #2.

I'm sure it's nothing serious but, it's always great to be cautious and eliminate any possibilities.

Best of luck.
