owww! that looks sore, dont let your dog lick it- a cone from the vet some anti- biotics & anti- flam they will give you. It will stop infection setting in & ease the pain. (I hear people are also using a blow up ring round the neck which sounds far my comfy) You can wash the wound in saline solution & add aloevera 100% the inside straight from the plant is best. I cant really tell from here- but your vet will be able to tell if its an injury (maybe from a fence or something), a bite from another animal, or maybe an insect bite or sting. Can you see if there are puncture wounds, how many & what size? Are there snakes, bees, spiders in your area? Always check for a bee stinger & pull it out. It looks like a little black stick.
