Hi there,
I have a (just turned) 1 year old German Shepard dog who has recently developed a rash (please see pictures) on her stomach and chest area. She itches it a lot and is constantly eating at her fur. She is outdoors quite a bit as I take her on a lot of hikes and walks through forests which she loves. I work in a restaurant and I bring home leftover meat (mostly steaks and lamb, lucky her eh!) but she sometimes eats commercial dog food too (Ingredients found below). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ingredients: cereals, meat and animal derivatives, fish and fish derivatives, oils and fats, minerals, vegetables, yeast

Is she on flea and tick preventative? My first thought because you take on hikes and walks is a flea allergy causing the rash since it is really common.

Hi FoxyCharlotte,
Yes she is, I do the monthly spot on treatment, but do they actually work? Its the kind for fleas and ticks but when I groom her (daily as she is very long haired) I still find ticks most days after we've been out. Hmm..
You should give your Vet a call.....looks like she could have mites and would need a medicated shampoo. Did you notice any hair loss around the rash areas?
You need to ask your vet if it is okay to give them to her every two weeks. In heavy tick areas some vets recommend that you administer it twice a month. Also would be a good idea since it could be mites like MomOf3 said.
