That's great ! Yes, I suppose if your dog would have caught the treat it would have been the icing on the cake but it is of no consequence. Training impulse control behavior as you and your dog exhibited opens many doors.
Patience is very difficult for some dogs as well as humans. Good job.

I have tried this with one of my dogs, but he has a... little different method. When I tell him he can take it and expect him to throw it in the air and catch it, he just tilts his head down until the treat slides off his nose to the ground and then he eats it
