My dog and I are both itchy

I had skipped his flea preventative last month and was pretty sure it was fleas, but we went to the vet to pick up some frontline and I had him checked for fleas, and he was fine.

Plus, the itching I'm experiencing isn't deep and unbearable, like fleas would be. It feels more like just dry skin. He also is way more itchy than before, scratching all the time.

However, I don't have dry skin. And we both started getting really itchy at pretty much the same time. Plus, when I put him or cuddle with him, I get pretty itchy just at the sites that were in contact with him.

Thoughts? Is it possible that we're both just experiencing something psychosomatic that has to do with our bond? Or maybe just one of us is and the other has something real?

I'd love the board's input!

Have you used a new detergent on your clothes, or a new shampoo, etc. on him? Anything new like that at all?
your dog out in the country at all? sarcoptic mange can be passed between human and animal who are in close contact with each other
But they would be showing signs, like patches of hair missing on your dog underarms, around ears, base of tail.
Could also be you are both allergic to something, oatmeal baths together :)

If its both you and your dogs its probably something out doors that they are coming into contact with and sharing it with you. You could try adding coconut oil to their food to see if its just dryness, maybe put it on your skin also. Its antibacterial and very soothing. Cold pressed only the other it to processed to be effective.
I haven't used any new detergents.

However, since i first started this thread, I woke up one morning to see his face all swollen. His snout was gigantic and his eye was so swollen he couldn't open it. He also threw up and had diarrhea. I panicked and called the vet. Upon her advice, I gave him 50mg of benadryl and brought him in. Since the oral benadryl didn't help, we also gave him a shot, and an antibiotic for the diarrhea.

In addition to all that, she told me to give him a bath, in case there was something topical that was irritating him. I usually use Viva La Dog Spa oatmeal shampoo, but she gave me a sample of some UK based hypo allergenc shampoo. I love it - it made his fur so soft and shiny.

Anyway, his itching has stopped, but min hasn't, lol. So I guess it's time to mention i to my doctor.
