We are walking our lactating Beagle many times a day as she is in an inside pen with her puppies. She won't do her business in there (and we'd rather she didn't). Does anything she might pick up during her walks pose a hazard to the puppies? They are only two weeks old.

If you're walking her outside where other unknown pets or wildlife have free access to, then yes the puppies are absolutely at risk from mom or you pickings something up in the environment and exposing them to it. If you maintain and good sanitation protocol and mom was current on her vaccines before being bred then the risk factors for most viruses and bacteria is decreased, but unfortunately you can never be fully protected against everything. Have you discussed your whelping set up with your breeding mentor and/or your vet?

I would not worry about it if the mother was fully vaccinated. You need to take her out to relieve herself she won't do it where the pups sleep.
