He arrived Tuesday night, late night, sleepy.
Well, today is my first day home with him (husband booked a day off yesterday).
His first people where a Haitian refugee family; Sonic was left behind when they got deported. On the streets for a week, he got picked up by a rescue group (that was already working with his family), and two months later, here he is in Canada. From the tropics to (today at least) the land of Ice and Snow.
He knows quite a lot already.
He comes, he sits, he 'sits pretty'. He asks for permission to get on the couch (which made him the 1st dog of ours to get permission--he's smaller than previous dogs), he is very friendly, he cuddles, he walks pretty decent on a leash, takes treats nice, and pees on tires, loves peeing on tires.
What he's learned already. Peeing on snowbanks. His marker/click word.
Working on down, get it (thrown treat to end down), bow (because he does it anyway), look at me (eye contact).
He has no clue what toys are, but I played with a little tug (yes, me playing him watching) which got him excited and jumpy, and then I started tossing & tossed it his way and he ran off with it, YAY! After three repeats, I was panting, enough for the day.
Anyway, it's pretty exciting to have a new dog, but I think we both have butterflies because I skipped lunch (I never do that), and he's being very picky about food.

Two days ago, I fell down. Camera's not working. :-(
I was skiing, fun, but the camera thing, not so fun. Talk about bad timing.

Yeah horrible timing, just when you finally get your new baby. Hopefully you are okay though.

I'm fine, dumping in the snow is part of the sport.
Took a pic with my tablet, so Sonic is in my 'dogs' folder.
Today, 1st tug, Yay! I really need a game I can play with a leashed dog, super important.
Also, reminded myself that settle & calm behaviours are important.
Tethering exercise. Leash him, put a cushion beside my stool. Get some art work done at my table. We both quietly ignored one another for a full 45 minutes. Yay! (I'll want to take this behaviour into the woods someday).
So training is fun, but I want to remind myself not to make being with me one continuous game. Sometimes I'm boring--and he's good with that, now he's on the couch sleeping.
