Maximum CBD oil dosage per 24 hours

2287 Views 32 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Animals45
Hi

I have a 9 year old Maltese who is scared of thunder and lightning. We give her 1ml CBD oil when we hear the Thunder and it does calm her down. Unfortunately we have had nearly 3 days of Storms so there is Thunder every now and then. I gave her 1ml and then again another dose 8 hours later and repeated this, but the problem is the CBD oil wears off before the 8 hours is up, so can I give her more doses. I dont want to overdose and my wife was already worried about my 3 doses per 24 hours.

Anyone know what the max would be per 24hours. She weighs about 12lbs so the 1ml is about right for that weight and the supplier does not say much more than that.

Thanks

Pierre

The dose depends on the amount of CBD contained within the carrier solution.
Ie: The CBD that I have used for my dogs came from an approved legal human dispensary in town, and I used the human weight scale to dose.

Mine contained 1000 mg of CBD per 30ml of solution
I have seen higher concentrations like 2000mg, 5000mg, and even higher per 30ml of solution. The really important thing is to get your CBD from a high quality source, with lab tests to prove what they claim. In Nevada USA, everything sold in a dispensary must be approved by licensed state labs..pesticides, PGRs, mold etc are tested for and the thresholds for contaminants are extremely low.

Initially I began with a smaller dose, and gradually increased it until the desired effects were reached, and then leveled off.
As @CachetheBC said, there does not appear to be any evidence that higher doses would cause an overdose (as long as there was less than .3% THC in the solution. I GUESS that if you gave too much, it MIGHT result in TEMPORARY Somnolence

Real CBD is just one of 500+ Cannabinoids that come from Cannabis Sativa plant. Always look for full spectrum products to take further advantage of the Entourage Effect created by other Cannabinoids. (enhanced effects) Breeders create multiple generations to breed plants that are high in CBD and low in THC..
ie: Charlotte's Web, named after Charlotte Figi (RIP), whose story helped make CBD what it is today.

It appears that there is little to no CBD in industrial hemp.
BTW,,There is no such thing as special pet CBD!

As with all things Cannabis: LESS IS MORE

I am not sure what products are available in the OP's country, but if there is a choice; I would stay clear of any products that are not accompanied by authentic lab tests, for pesticides, PGRs, (plant growth regulators) mold etc.
If at all possible, I would stay away from any online vendors unless they can post their results from independent laboratories.
If you look for product reviews and find that most are reproductions from the vendor's own site; that is a dead giveaway that all is not as it appears.

CBD has become the snake oil of the century and there are tons of products out there that are not worth your money or potential health ramifications for your dog.

Things have changed since the Farm Bill passed

There are a lot of vendors taking Credit Cards.

As far as inspections go; I will only trust state certified labs like those in my state of Nevada, and even those can apparently be bought.
The ONLY reason I don't grow CBD FULL SPECTRUM (not industrial hemp) plants is that the testing is way beyond my budget for a home grower. I would only grow a CBD strain for my dogs as CBD does nothing for me, and I would have no way of identifying THC content on my own. This is the only reason that I buy CBD for the dogs (IF I need it) from a licensed dispensary here.

Most of the "testing reports" that I see online never mention testing for pesticides, PGRs and mold. They just go out of their way to say that potency and lack of THC are tested. Nevada state labs are required to test for the above, as well as potency checks etc.

Edit: In fact, I rarely see an actual report PUBLISHED to justify their claims!

Here is only one example of a CBD company selling internationally and taking CCs.

@BusterandDickens Thanks for the clarification. As the FDA has not approved CBD for treatment I can see how this could be a problem.
Are you aware that the FDA (via HHS) owns a patent on cannabinoids for certain medicinal uses?

Talk about hypocrisy!
@Madra Anamchara do a search on "can I use Paypal to process payments for my cbd product" and you'll find lots of confirmation.
Paypal bans a lot of things..right or wrong, to keep themselves out of trouble with the feds.
Our dispensaries were set upon by the FDA for selling "pet CBD" products so they stopped; since they didn't want the FDA messing with them. It simply was not worth their trouble.

Here is a Petsmart ad for a CBD product where you can use a CC in person in a brick and mortar store.

Petco too: (online or in person)
No. Thats not true, and I don't think you are understanding what I am saying. Ebay does not sell CBD. Amazon does. But people claim its not full spectrum and not lad tested. FACEBOOK absolutely does not advertise CBD products. They are kicking people off for trying. The major credit card companies will NOT allow CBD sales and classify it as too high risk. There are high risk credit card accounts and two or three companies that offer it . But the store is paying 3 times the cost to offer it. I guess that makes no difference to the consumer, but for a small store its a big deal. A year ago Facebook starting running some select CBD ads from companies with a lot of money, but then pulled them when people like me complained to them that they were playing favorites with these big companies while prohibiting others. There are not hundreds of stores selling CBD. If you do not believe me ASK PAYPAL if you can sell CBD using paypal. They are banning anyone who tries and closing all their paypal accounts linked to their name. It happened to two people i know. I am not going to argue the point any further. I was only trying to say that most of the companies selling online in the USA are manufacturers and have the lab tests and certifications. I am willing to bet PETCO and Petsmart do not sell it online either, but I don't care enough to go look.
Paypal also bans the sale of high capacity gun magazines, which are still not illegal federally; but are illegal in a handful of states) to stay out of potential trouble with the feds. The last company on earth that wants more scrutiny is Paypal.
@Buzzu2 I'm just sharing what I found online. I'm not arguing on the logic of any of it.
I jumped because I am passionate about all things cannabis, and have a "thing" for bad information/, and I only rediscovered it 5 yrs ago. Back in the day, we had no idea that it could be good for anything except fun.

I was astonished when Nevada legalized recreationally in 2016. Prior to that it was a total hassle to even get an MMJ card (MMJ was legalized in 2012). There were roadblocks everywhere when I tried and a six month wait.
I had abstained for over 35 yrs to protect a high paying job in the gaming industry. After retirement, I had to be put on a regimen of opioids by my doctor (10 yrs worth) for 24x7 pain. They barely took the edge off my pain and eventually would have killed me. A side benefit is that I sleep like a kid again...I kid you not.

I discovered the medicinal benefits of cannabis quite by accident, after I was able to purchase Cannabis products legally. After 30 days I was able to dump the opioids and never looked back. Afterwards, I realized that this new medicine was pretty easy to grow myself and saved a fortune.
I usually grow indoors since the plant is more easily controlled in a grow tent. Aside from the medical value, growing has been great therapy as well.

I had one dog whose life was extended by 6 months after giving up on prescribed meds, and I tried dispensary CBD as a last resort. Alas, nothing can cure old age, but she did very well those last 6 months.
If testing wer not so expensive, I would definitely be growing CBD rich plants for future use with my dogs.
I have the seeds on hand as well. CBD has become so profitable that many cannabis seed banks give them away with a regular seed order. Otherwise I would not have bought any CBD strain seeds.

. One problem is the existence of false information that proliferates the net. It is wise to get as many sources as possible before making a decision. Since the FDA has effectively banned all things cannabis (except their own), studies in the USA have ground to a halt in favor of the drug companies doing their thing overseas..Like South America and Israel for example

I can't wrap my head around the schedule one designation ("having no medicinal value") yet their own a patent on the very same thing. This is why I find the FDA's position so abhorrent, since their own patent was issued in 2003

One of my favorite strains grown indoors.

Yeah you can't use a credit card at any dispensary anywhere in the country. Here in Oregon they have an ATM in every dispensary for that reason
Same here, but Nevada now has a limited banking trial program for Dispensaries which is a long time overdue.

I'm with you on this. Cannabis has helped me with the chronic pain I experience more than anything else has, and I also was able to leave opiate pain medication behind me. Forever, as long as I can get the tinctures that do the job so much better than pain pills ever did, and have other great benefits as well. Long live the cannabis plant. :)
Tinctures are very easy to make and the dispensaries charge an arm and a leg. I make it by the quart..:p

Ebay spun off PayPal in 2014,
My bet is that they still ahve a majority ownership though.

.
At the dispenseries I presume it is more of a case of THC than CBD! I am not really that sure now of anything i said...except for the advertising! ;)
If the THC content is <.3%, the FDA doesn't care anymore, except in the cases of false advertising and claims. Something to do with violating their cosmetic rules I think.

So far they have kept their mitts pretty much off the legalized states. They would be besieged with states rights lawsuits and they know it. Too much money at stake for the states to just roll over. Those days are gone for good.

Here is a basic method for making your own tinctures. Aside from being much cheaper..you can custom tailor the strength.
I only make THC tinctures, and those sold in dispensaries are not strong enough thanx to regulation; but if you DIY you get whatever you want. One interesting about THC is that when it degrades, the composition changes to CBN. CBN is less psychoactive, but oh so great for a good night's sleep. I have been making my night time tincture with 2 yr old CBN rich cannabis.
If you use olive oil or food grade glycerin, you can put your tincture into a 00 size gelatin capsule. It will then be acted upon by the liver (instead of being directly secreted into the blood stream) and have the effect of an edible!
Take some sublingually and add a capsule and you will not believe the effects.

Hey, thanks much for this information. I did make my own tincture one time but all the info said you have to use high potency alcohol, and everclear is best, so I did that and it made a tincture that worked but the everclear burned my mouth so I couldn't use it. I have not ever found any info on how to make it with oil or glycerin instead of alcohol.
I use the Ardent FX to decarb and infuse. I am currently testing a potential competitor to the FX for another vendor.

BUT here is a cheaper alternative. Remember to decarb your cannabis first. The nice thing about the Ardent units is that decarbs and infuses perfectly every time.
You can put Everclear based tincture in a size 00 glycerin capsule too, but you must ingest it immediately or it will melt.
