Hello,
Within the last two weeks or so, I’ve noticed my dog has some loose skin on her lower belly. In touching it, it is soft and doesn’t seem to have any lumps or anything under it. It also doesn’t hurt her when I touch it. She is still behaving normally. My boyfriend said she’s had it for a while, but figured it was just fat and he isn’t concerned about it.

She’s two years old and was spayed about a year and a half ago. She isn’t overweight, but does have a naturally flabby neck (she’s had that since she was a puppy). She’s a high energy Australian Shepherd/Pit Bull mix. With the winter, our walks have been a little less frequent, but as mentioned it doesn’t appear appear that she’s put on any weight.

I’m planning to make an appointment for her, but wanted to see if anyone has experienced this with their dogs? I’m attaching pictures of her right side which seems to be more prominent than her left side. The second picture makes it appear like it is more of a solid lump, but as mentioned it is soft to the touch and kind of just hangs there. I added a third picture that shows her body just for reference.

My dog's belly looks just like that, she was spayed when she was 5 months old, did you ever found out the cause of the hanging skin?

I took her to the vet a few days after I posted, and she said it was from gaining weight 😆 She wasn’t concerned at all. So needless to say, I put her on a diet and she is back to her “normal” weight. She still has the saggy skin which I assume won’t go away.

@jstig88 can I just say we have incredibly similar dogs 😅

I have a border collie cross staffy who is also 2 years old, was desexed at 6 months and has this same loose skin. She also has natural flabby neck too, despite not being overweight! She also has similar markings and build, minus the tan, as she is just black and white.

I think some dogs just develop a pouch their naturally, regardless of body condition. Gemma is quite fit and she keeps up with me on my horse rides, which I go on every day, and they are a minimum of 6 or 7 km, and we don't go slow either...

Yes they do sound quite similar! Maybe that are related 😆 Zoey also has a ridiculously flabby neck and it’s been that way since she was a puppy, so I never really questioned it. Her belly could have been the same way and I just never realized it - it’s funny how that happens!
We’ll just blame Covid for the extra weight that she put on! Winter also didn’t help, but now that it’s summer and we can get our walks in again, she has definitely lost some of it.

I’m having this same discovery recently with my dog. She’s just over 2. Got some covid weight but we are extremely active. Took her to the vet for blood work and nothing came back. She’s the happiest most energetic dog. I’m happy to know I’m not alone with this random belly pouch on my fur baby.

Glad your pup is ok! And I’m glad I’m not the only crazy fur mom worried about things like that 😂 I think it’s just one of those things you don’t typically notice, and then one day you do and you’re like “where the heck did that come from?!” Zoey also just had routine blood work done at her yearly appointment and all came back great. So even though I trusted the vet’s word that she was ok…having the blood work verify it was even better!
