I’m fostering a mother dog with 3 week old puppies. Her hind nipples are looking pretty raw and she tries to intervene when the puppies nurse on those ones. Today she kept trying to walk away and hide in a corner away from the pups, so I had to sit with her to keep her there and allow them to nurse.

As a human mother with nursing babies, I was advised to use medical grade lanolin to soothe sore nipples. It’s considered safe for nursing human babies. But to my surprise, I can’t find any information on whether it’s safe for dogs! Do people ever use this product on dogs? I found it very effective as a human, so unless it’s specifically harmful to pups, I can’t imagine why not.
