Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of advice. I have two dogs, a Basset Hound and a miniature wire haired dischund, not female and both 5 years old.

Five days ago I had to take both my girls to the vet, both girls were lethargic and had some trouble walking properly. In particular both of them had difficulty getting down the two steps in house (these don't normally cause them any problems). The vet diagnosed them as have some kind of dog flu (I paraphrase) and prescribed them a mild pain killer and rest.

Yesterday I had to take the daschund back to the vet as her back legs had stopped working completely. The vet has now told us that the daschund has slipped a disc, prescribing painkillers, antibiotics and cage rest.

Now on the face of it this is the logical diagnosis if not for the fact the basset is still having problems walking properly and like the daschund this is focussed on her back legs.

Just wondered if anyone out there had experience of two dogs both having the difficulty walking at the same time as it strikes me as extremely unlikely that both have damaged their back at the same time.

Am taking both girls back to the vet later today so any advice very much welcomed.

Many thanks,
Jonathan

I've also heard of this with one particular flea treatment - was anything new like that done prior to this?

A couple of things I would check is something that happened to my dog. Check their rears and rear feet, especially between the pads and toes and see if there are any little bumps or any crusty golden brown looking gunk in there. My dog went lame a couple months ago and was diagnosed with Lupus, however, I found out my dog had tapeworms and they were getting in her feet and drying, causing severe irritation and she could not walk at all. Its probably not what is going on with your dogs, however, a quick look can't hurt
