hi all im new to this site. i have a 2yr female old golden lab who is pretty well behaved but recently she has started mis-behaving. the biggest promlem i am having with her is of a night time when she is locked in the kitchen wich is large with my parents black lab. i am waking up to find she has been on the bench where the washing is kept and pulling out my mothers bra's and destroying them or if she has been able to get into the hall way where the dog food is kept she is taking the tins and ripping the paper off them even though she is leaving the bag of biscuits that she could easily get into has anyone any ideas what i can do to stop this. Also she is eating the other dogs poo which is a little unpleasant. any help and advice would be great. thank you

Welcome!!!

Labs are very high energy dogs. It sounds to me like she's bored (she's getting into things) so she likely needs more exercise and stimulation. Try taking her for a long walk after dinner to tire her out, or play with her in the yard with a ball (I *know* labs love balls :p)

If she's not getting walked every day -she needs to be, and often they need to be walked more then once a day. Get in the habit of exercising her until she's tired.

Because Labs can overeat if they get into food, lock anything up that you can. Dog food, biscuits and people food should be secured in cupboards. If she can open those=get child proof cabinet locks (these are super cheap and easy to use)

There are lots of reasons for coprophagia-which is a nice way of saying "poop eater!"

20 Reasons Why Dogs Eat Poop (Coprophagia, Pica)

And obviously you want to stop it-most importantly
5 Tips To Stop A Dog From Eating Feces

"
1. The living or wandering area of the dog should be properly maintained. Pet owners should train the dog to defecate in a designated area. A dog might be forced to eat his feces in order to keep his surroundings clean.
2. Pet owners should know better than feeding a dog anything edible. It is advisable that the dog is given a well balance diet full of nutrients. The amount of food given should also be measure to avoid overeating.
3. Dogs should be fed in a timely manner. Twice a day of equal servings is ideal. This practice is advisable to prevent a dog from eating feces because of hunger.
4. Teach basic obedience training. Say "off" if the dog is starting to taste his poop.
5. Consult a veterinarian immediately if the behavior of eating feces actually resulted from a medical condition. Those suggested above will not address the problem and can only be solved with proper medical attention."

Hope this helps you!! Keep us posted :)

has she always been in the kitchen at night or is this a new situation for her? i agree with mikey that she probably needs more exercise, but i suggest more than a walk, i like to take high energy dogs for a nice run next to my bike if i can. no matter what, it is important to remember that dogs chew, their whole lives, not just when they are pups. providing both the dogs with good things to chew on at night may help to save your stuff. i recommend kong type rubber toys.

Just gonna repeat what everybody else has said, sounds bored. Tiring the dog out before you go to bed works.

Hahaha I can concur on that ;) LOL

Mikey has destroyed my bra panty collection as well as several tops -however I guess he's starting to warm up to my bf-as I caught him this morning with one of his shirts. It's been four months, and he finally destroyed something of Dave's LOL

AND it's so true that they go for the expensive ones too -brats! ;)

After I found another bra that Mikey had chewed the straps off of-compeltely ruining it without actually damaging it much-Dave instructed Mikey to "Finish your BRA!!" LOL :p

(We didn't actually let him continue but it was funny)

Feeding pumpkin to Chloe stopped her of poop eating. Give it to both dogs - a few tablespoons a day is all you need. Dogs love pumpkin by the way.
