We had to have our 15 year old dog put down today because of kidney disease. She seemed fine up until 2 weeks ago but we are now wondering if we did something to cause this. It is making me heart sick to think that we might have made her sick. Does it normally progress this quickly in elderly dogs?

https://www.certapet.com (kidney disease in dogs) This is a very thorough site explaining everything you need to know about it. There are lots of possible causes. Age being one & yours was 15 a good age to reach ☺ Its progressive but the symptoms start showing in stages 3& 4. You can can read up on symptoms, causes treatments using the link. Sorry to hear about your loss 😔

There can be so many things that can cause kidney failure, its sometimes impossible to know. It could have been as simple as a cold that settled in a kidney, that damaged it, or???? I think at age 15, your dog lived a long and happy life, so you should not blame yourself. The likely reality is, there would have been nothing you could have done differently, that would have changed the outcome.
