Hi guys,

Our dog is about a year old, a Lab/Border Collie mix. We adopted him from a shelter about 4 months ago. From the start, he scratched a lot - however he absolutely does not have fleas. He has had flea meds anyway, just in case.

It seems to happen mostly at night, and he mostly scratches his neck, but sometimes nibbles on his elbows or knees. I would have to say it looks like just plain dry skin. Tried removing his collar. He gets a great supplement - "Hugs & Kisses" which is mostly Lecithin, and his coat looks great. He also gets peanut oil mixed in with his dry food. He has had a few baths, although not for this reason. Any other ideas? Thanks.

His bed might be an issue, if he has a certain bed that he sleeps on every night. I read once about someone whose dog was always itchy at night. They replaced his bed with one that was easier to clean and his itchiness went away.

It could be an allergy, the trick is going to be to figure out to what.

Might want to include your Vet in the discovery process. We give Samantha an Omega 3 supplement every day in her food, which makes a huge difference in her itchiness. Without it she scratches incessantly, with it, hardly at all. Couple of squirts in her breakfast every morning, is all it takes.
