I was at faraway the other day and was surprised to see Blue Buffalo dog food. I also saw a grain free brand called Meridan. I've never heard of this food but it was relatively cheap, and from what I can tell the ingredients look good.
I'd like to know what you guys think about it, as I only have a vauge idea of what to look for on a label.

The ingredients are a little vague. When you look at labels, like human food the most plentiful ingredients are listed first. So while the first ingredient here is chicken meal, you don't know how much chicken is in the product.

Compare it with this -

Fresh chicken meat (13%), fresh turkey meat (7%), fresh whole eggs (7%), fresh chicken liver (6%), fresh whole herring (6%), fresh whole flounder (5%), fresh turkey liver (5%), fresh chicken necks (4%), fresh chicken heart (4%), fresh turkey heart (4%), chicken (dehydrated, 4%), turkey (dehydrated, 4%), whole mackerel (dehydrated, 4%), whole sardine (dehydrated, 4%), whole herring (dehydrated, 4%), whole red lentils, whole green lentils, whole green peas, lentil fiber, whole chickpeas, whole yellow peas, whole pinto beans, whole navy beans, herring oil (1%), chicken fat (1%), chicken cartilage (1%), chicken liver (freeze-dried), turkey liver (freeze-dried), fresh whole pumpkin, fresh whole butternut squash, fresh whole zucchini, fresh whole parsnips, fresh carrots, fresh whole red delicious apples, fresh whole bartlett pears, fresh kale, fresh spinach, fresh beet greens, fresh turnip greens, brown kelp, whole cranberries, whole blueberries, whole saskatoon berries, chicory root, turmeric root, milk thistle, burdock root, lavender, marshmallow root, rosehips, enterococcus faecium.

You can see much more clearly what is in it, which I like.

Chicken meal is better than meat meal, which could be composed of any animal species and any body part. Fresh ingredients are always better than meals, but most popular dog foods are made from meals.

Yes, I agree with @satchmo that chicken meal is always better than meat meal. Chicken meal is packed with protein, essential nutrients that plays a very vital role in muscle growth and other things. It is best for dogs as they also need a healthy and balanced diet to remain healthy, fresh and active.
