As a general rule in the US, a landlord can describe what you can and can not have within the home, mind you, it can be argued that renter’s Insurance or a stiffer deposit could cover this. How ever, once the pets are allowed in the home what is considered “normal wear” changes in the eyes of the law.

Best you ask ahead of time, maybe look more towards houses then apartments, pending if you plan on living here a while, buying is an option.

If it where Canada, there are laws there where the Landlord is very restricted on not allowing pets in the home, Because of what is called Animal therapy, a landlord in Canada would have to prove that the dogs could be a danger to an other tenant… Allergies and that sort of thing would fall in question.

With larger dogs, mainly if they are active, it could be rougher to get in an apartment complex or condo area, but a house should be fairly easy, there are many homes for rent.

THIS will seem way off the wall possibly, but some thing to think about. From the way you write and the words mainly, “expatting” or to expatriate, one would think you are either from England or a British colonized country. Pending on where you are going to live, there will probably be people who would know more about the housing situation.

If you go to a local rifle club, sportsman’s club or outdoor gun club where Skeet and trap is practiced, you will find most of their members have larger breed hunting dogs. Very often, these people will know where you could look for apartments or homes for rent where dogs are allowed.
In some instances, the member may even have a home for rent. Just a thought, also, if your dogs are UKC, you might consider looking at the breeders list in the AKC for that area and contacting them about homes in their area. Being a member can have its privileges ;) Besides, if you plan on continuing your agility and shows, you will probably need to get to know then some time soon.

When I first came tot he US from Quebec, I rented a home, then a few years later, bought a small home, the mortgage is about the same as my rent was.

Oh an other thing, not that i believe your dogs are not up to par in the medical section, but look ahead at the requirements for travel with dogs. You will probably need so be up to date on all vaccination and then some. You might also be asked to quarantine your pups for a little while when you enter the US.

Thank you for your answer.

At the moment we are living in Belgium. We are from the Netherlands, my every day language is Dutch, but I'm doing my best to avoid writing errors/mistakes in my messages. :)
BTW, Parlez Vous Francais? You might guess by my SN i am french my self. Microsoft word is my friend...

For dogs from Belgium there is no quarantine restriction. Only a health report from the veterinary is needed.

Thank you for your answer and all the information.

The problem is Not in Belgium, its when you enter the USA. That is when they could require a quarantine,

Where abouts in the US would you be going?

I am in Pittsburgh my self.
