Hi, my chihuahua spent the day at a family members and came home with fleas. I washed him right away and sprayed the house but later that night I noticed a red mark with white bumps next to his private area. I bought him some "Pet armor antihistamine" for insect bites but it's been 2 days and it still looks the same. I want to buy some ointment to put on it but I'm starting to wonder if it's infected or a specific bug bite and if i should go to the vet or something that can be fixed easily. PLEASE HELP!!!

It could be a bug bite - with lumps and bumps, I normally give it a day or two to see what happens, like I'd do for myself. I don't rush to the doctor with every sting or bite. But if it doesn't do away, or gets worse, that's when to involve a professional.

If you don't have ot already pick up some Vetrycin spray, it's an antiseptic spray for animals that you can get at any feed store or pet store. I bought a bottle when my dog was less than a yr old, she's 5 in a couple months and the bottle is still 3/4 full! Anyway, it's really good to have on hand, and seems to work very well on any skin irritation or cuts or abrasions.

My vet said that the quarter size hole in her neck was from a bit, but I find that hard to believe. It just kept growing and finally she had to have surgery with four inches of stiches.

What happened to your poodle was unfotunate, but that's exactly why the best advice is to keep an eye on a bump or bite, and if it gets worse see your Vet!

What did the Vet tell you it was?
